Facebook Gets Ready To Change Again

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Facebook has learned from its mistakes – a little bit. They have created a “sneak preview” group to get opinions about the changes they are about to roll out. Here is the latest from the group:

Facebook slips advertisements between News Feed items

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

Take a look:

Facebook Ad

I have nothing against Aqua Teen Hunger Force, I really like it, but ads in the news feed are a big annoyance. It’s obvious now why Facebook was unwilling to remove the news feed after it was introduced, even when a Facebook group petitioned its removal. Ads for the feed were part of Facebook’s plan since its conception. Now, it is impossible to avoid looking at the ads in the feed, since we use the feed every day to find out what our friends are doing.

I’m counting down the days until Facebook becomes Myspace.

My data is on NBC – this is awesome!

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

I was a little skeptical when I read the following e-mail:

“Ryan-

Per your request, I wanted to let you know we used your member data as part of a local story on the Palo Alto-based Web site, Facebook.com.

http://www.nbc11.com/news/9805842/detail.html

The story will air today at 4 p.m. and will be included in our Web version once it runs.

– Olsen Ebright
Web Editor, nbc11.com”

But it’s true. My data is on NBC! What data, you say? I logged the membership of the “Students against Facebook News Feed” every 30 minutes as it increased at an incredible rate. I put that data into Excel, made two nice graphs, and put it on flightpad.net (my personal site) with a little back-story.

I sent links to a few people, including the group creator, who posted a link on the “recent news section” of the group homepage. My facebook page has received more than 10,000 unique page views since then. You can view it here:
